Yasutake Iwana
Born in 1987 in Mie Prefecture, Japan. He studied painting at Seian University of Art and Design and at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (Germany). Based in Shimagahara, Iga City (formerly Shimagahara Village), Mie Prefecture—his place of origin—he produces paintings that engage with the memories, everyday lives, belief systems, and ecological cycles of rural Japan, which are in decline due to depopulation.
